The SEEDH CORE TEAM
SEEDH History
SEEDH Cooperative got its start in 2016 when a group of citizens in and around the Pocahontas Coalfield, which straddles West Virginia and Virginia, got together to examine what other economic sectors could be built out to support a family income of $80,000 a year beyound energy. Through asset-based research and community outreach, this group of citizens conducted agricultural pilots, built partnerships, engaged in economic sector planning, and pursured opportunities to capture funding to support and develop new opportunities.
This group formed a range of organizational structures, including the SEEDH Cooperative, a for profit cooperative charted in West Virginia but able to absorb members also from other states, and, the nonprofit EDGE www.edge-us.org. Over time, the functions of these two groups sharpened, with EDGE focused on training, pilots, product support, entrepreneurial support, and land access, and SEEDH moving from a focus on marketing and pilots to a focus on infrastructure and agrihoods.
These two groups continue to work in tandem and with an array of educational, municipal, agency, and private partners.
