When the folks here at SEEDH first heard of the term "agrihood" we became very excited.
An agrihood is a community including or created to have some of the food the folks in the community consume also produced directly in that community by growers.
Think market garden production co-located where people are living, maybe even centered in the community, where a set of farmers reaches the USDA promise that one farmer can grow enough food to support 100 people. In this model, the farmer could get the necessary support for production and local people can get locally grown healthy food.
The folks here at SEEDH understood the concept and saw its potential not only for fancy folks looking to "live the farm-to-table lifestyle" all the time as some of the websites promoting the concept promised, but also as a means for reorganizing both communities and a certain sector of agricultural production to be symbiotic, mutually supportive of a range of economic and health goals, and most importantly, achievable.
